capturing moments

The first time I heard of Matera, Italy was when the new movie James Bond – No Time to Die was filmed there. During the first 5 minutes of the movie, I was astonished with the beauty of Matera. Then I opened Google Maps to check where it is.

Matera is also known as the city of caves because of the houses built in front of caves. Old town, called Sassi, is considered one of the oldest towns in the world. It is a part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. As recently as the 1950s, more than 15,000 people lived in the caves. In 1952, the authorities declared that the living conditions in the caves were unacceptable and living in a cave became illegal.
Matera is one of the oldest inhabited places in the world where people have lived for over 9,000 years. Think about it – that’s old. It’s a crooked, crumbling, tumbling town filled with cave-dwellings, churches and an intense sense of history.

So when I found out that I was going to work on a wedding in Matera, I was all excited to make plans on how to give 100% of my skills in that wedding. I was so proud that I could be a Matera wedding photographer. The cities in the south of Italy are very different from the rest of Italy, but Matera is unique.

Daria & Gianluca decided to get married in Matera because it is Gianluca’s home town. Italy is very well known for its good taste in everything, food, design and joy of living. This wedding in Matera was no exception. Food was delicious, the people were nice and the wine was great. The wedding was like a great Italian movie, full of laughter and nicely dressed people. I have a feeling that people from the south of Italy have that “know-how” on enjoying life.
